Own a Challenger E-Type Roadster replica MKH128E built from a 1977 XJ6 donor. Trying to source a replacement tyre to match the other four - Goodyear Eagle NCT made in about 1991/2. One of mine ruined after deflating at high speed when the tape covering the spoke heads inside the wheel rim became brittle (with age? wrong tape?) and punctured the tube. Something to beware if you run wire wheels. The others are now re-taped with new tubes, but apparently this tyre is no longer made to the same pattern. Anyone able to help or wishing to exchange news/views about Challengers is welcome to e-mail me. My first hit, by the way, on a great web site!

I've been in the club for almost four years now, ever since I bought my first Jag - a 1987 3.6 XJS coupe. Since then my wife has now got a 1986 3.6 Coupe and I've just decided to upgrade mine to a V12 Convertible. A nice one owner from new and low mileage. Who knows if we get a good summer next year I might even take it to the odd show! I would recommend the XJS to anybody particularly the 3.6.

Hi I have an XJ6 '86 Black and 102k - The Black Cat. I need somebodys help. I changed over to this new insurance company and they are getting on my nerves! The Vin number is the crux. The 10th digit is a C and they are equating that with 1983. This is an 86 model and says so on the door panel.(It was made in Oct 85). Short of calling Jaguar in Coventry with the full vin number and asking for proof is there any body out there that has had a problem like this? The door has veneer wood panels and around the gear stick also which supposedly puts it as a 85 or 86 model according to someone who e-mailed me recently. Let me know if you can help Morgan in Lubbock

Hi Cat lovers. I've just come back into the Jaguar driving experience after a 7 year break (house purchase forced sale) and I had forgotten the joys and despairs of Jaguar ownership. I have recently bought a Lister V12 XJS based on a 1978 XJS Coupe. I cannot seem to find any information on Listers so I would appreciate any details that anyone has as well as any history of my car which has the registration VBL 350S.Cheers!

Found the site at last. I own a 1988 3.6 Sovereign at the moment with 110k on the clock. Previously I owned a 1987 3.6 Sov with 216k on it. Don't tell me that XJ40's are unreliable. Show me what else you can buy for the same money that has the same appeal. Great website!! Now being middle aged, I just gave in to a life-long "impulse" or actually a goal and finally bought a Jag, a 1994 XJ6 in perfect condition with less than 48,000 miles. Although I have only had a couple of days now, it is already my pride and joy. After years of driving ordinary cars, mostly Japanese vehicles, I now feel complete. While the Japanese cars and one German car have always served me well, they were not Jags, and to me there is nothing quite like a Jag!! I would like to hear from other Jag enthusiasts.

Hello again to all you Jaguar lovers, Can anybody out there please give me some advice regarding head gaskets? I wish to replace the head gasket on my 1990 XJ40 Sovereign 2.9 litre due to a slight oil leak from above the timing chain cover. It is not a problem to the engine but is making my immaculate engine bay a little oily. This is not a job I wish to tackle myself so I would like to know if any of you have had this job done in the past, and how much did it cost? Apparently, this is a fairly common problem, and is one recognised by Jaguar. The replacement gasket has a modification on it to rectify the problem of oil leaks. I do not mind parting with my hard earned cash to have this job carried out as my Jaguar has to look its best for the summer show season, so if the price is horribly high, I won't be offended! Honest! Any information regarding this matter will be much appreciated. Kind regards to all of you and your Jaguars. Steve Jordan.

Help! I recently purchased a 1990 XJ6 and I am experiencing some strange problems... When I start the car in the morning and after the car gets up speed the transmission bucks and it seems like it goes into the infamous "limp mode" and the transmission light comes on on the dash lights. If I drive the car for about 3 to 5 minutes , then turn the car off and then back on, the warning light goes off and it runs the rest of the day just fine. Does anyone know what would cause this? I also don’t have a good mechanic I can trust yet which also presents a bit of a problem. Anyone know a good one in the Sacrameno area? Love the car.. Haven’t the time or expertise to do it myself. Any input would be great! Thanx great site!

I moved up from an MGB (For Sale!) to a XK150 DHC. We're only the third owner since new. The last owner bought it from a dealer in Virgina, USA in 1963 and I don't know who owned it originally. It's never been restored and has only 58K original miles on it, even the 40 year old radio works (when it warms up!). It's off-white (repainted and it looks like Olde English White was the original color?) with a red interior and red wire wheels. I'm interested in recommended books about the XK150 with lots of color pictures. I'm also interested in contacting other XK150 owners to share information. My car has the 3.8 liter engine. See you on the road! Dave

Just a short note to say what a great web site and also to see if anyone has an average condition XJ6 4.2 for sale as I am having trouble finding one at a reasonable price . Also I am breaking a 1980 XJS V12 the engine/gearbox are perfect as is the interior/diff chrome etc the wings aren’t too bad but the rest of the car is only held together with the TWR body-kit that was put onto it. I bought an XK8 conv. in March this year. As I live in Germany I bought it from a German dealer-full UK spec, RHD with lots of extras. Now that I want to sell it, UK dealers have shown little interest, claiming that customers 'only want Jaguars that have been registered initially in UK.' I find it difficult to believe that potential Jaguar buyers display such an attitude. Everybody knows that all Jaguar cars are made in the same country and that UK spec means UK spec- I have a Certificate of Conformity which guarantees this fact. Does anybody know something that I don't? I hope to sell this car with two years warranty for £45,000. Can anybody explain why this is a poor deal for any potential customer?

Hi all. I have a 1985 XJ6 that is getting the care I should have been giving my past cars. Its sort of fun to see the heads turn when the car goes by. A great site. Nice to know it is available. I am considering buying a 1988 XJ6. Its in perfect shape and rides like a dream. But I am concerned because the guy selling it said it was made by Ford and I know Ford didn’t buy the company until 1989. Do you think he’s trying to pull a fast one? It only concerns me because of all the problems I have herd of rumors about pre Ford electrical system problems. Was there electrical problems with the 88 XJ6s’? Is this a good car to start my Jag collection or should I keep looking...He’s asking 8, 000 USD...I’m really encouraged in the LACK of bad electrical stories on your site...Are the problems a myth? Any input would be appreciated.

I didn't plan this. It just happened. I entered a search query to www.carfinder.co.uk and it kept coming up with Jags and now, unbelievably, I've bought one. Trouble is, it's condition is too good and so for the first time in my life I feel the need to look after a car. This is not me at all; I like to treat all cars with the disdain they deserve as unending sources of financial drain and pollution. Well, stuff all that, this is a Jag and it's time to change. So, I need basic advice about car cleaning, minor bodywork treatment, etc and also details of where I can the thing serviced without getting ripped off. This feels so weird. Any other turncoats out there?

I am the regional representative for the Leicester Region of the JEC. The Leicester Region now meet on the third Wednesday of each month at Beedles Lake Golf Centre between Ratcliffe on the Wreake and East Goscote. The meetings are very friendly and popular. We have now over 110 active local members and this months meeting we have invited Tony O'Keefe from the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust to give us an update on their organisation. We draw members from surrounding counties and there is always a friendly atmosphere. I would like to thank all the members past and present for there support over the last ten years. It's a great club to be a member of. Next year with the twenty fifth anniversary of the XJS, we are organising a celebration at Donnington Race Circuit on the first weekend of June 2000. I hope any one with an XJS or other Jaguar model will be able to come to this event. More details of the event will be in the JEC magazine from early next year. If you wish to participate please send me an e-mail and any news I will send to you. I hope people will come to the event from all over the world. Leicester Region's Webpages

Hello again Jaguar lovers. I have a little problem to sort out and I am hoping the enthusiasm amongst you will assist me in this matter. I have a friend who lives in Beckenham in Kent, England who owns a 1983 Daimler Sovereign 4.2 in Coronet gold with rare velour cloth trim. The problem I am faced with is he has decided to sell his beloved Daimler due to it requiring slight corrosion attention. Nothing too serious you understand, the car is still worthy of an M.O.T. But has corrosion on one inner wing splash guard panel, one front jacking point and the usual rust round the rear screen. Cosmetically, the Daimler could do with tidying of the rear wheel arches and a new coat of paint. Compared to what he has spent on the car already (lots of pound notes) the work left remaining on his big cat is relatively small fry and should not dent his wallet too much! I am having major problems persuading him to not sell up but to complete the work and restore it's nine lives! There’s not much time left, as I think his for sale advert will be in November's Jaguar Enthusiast. If you have any encouraging remarks or thoughts on this matter, please forward them to me via my e-mail address, or post them in this guest book. Together we may be able to persuade him to remain an enthusiast and keep his fine Daimler. He's got so far with this running restoration, it would be a shame for him to give up now! Any responses will be passed onto him as he will be visiting me on Friday the 15th of October and other times in the near future. It would be a shame to loose a fellow club member and also my show going buddy! Kind regards and please get typing! Steve.

On the XJR, even after several wheelbalances by Jaguar Dealers with Jaguar clip on weights, I still have a slight harmonic 62-78 mph, then smooth again ^ 130mph. Is this a typical Pirelli Tire anomaly as I'm led to believe? My benchmark is my E Type V-12, which is smoooth >115+ (wire wheels) Any help would be appreciated!

Can anyone help with ideas as to how I can trace ownership and registration details going back to the early 60s. I have a restored 1960 XK150 DHC that was imported privately into NZ in 1965. I have traced all of the subsequent owners in NZ but have no idea how to start tracing back to the UK. All the information I have is that the car (originally pastel blue) was despatched from the factory on 20 April 1960 and sold by P.J. Evans. (Evans Halshaw as they now are have no records from this time). Does anyone have a car supplied by this dealership at about this time?

Hello again Jaguar fans! I haven’t written for a while so I thought I’d share with you my latest saga of Jaguar ownership! Last Saturday whilst pulling into a petrol station in Loughborough, Leicester, I managed to do something really disastrous and clip my front bumper on a large metal chest containing solid fuel. I now know why it is called "solid" fuel as it slightly distorted the appearance of the aforementioned bumper. "Bang" it went. "oh no, that sounds expensive!" I said. (or words to that effect) to cut a long story short, a complete new bumper assembly was purchased on the following Monday from my local jag dealer (all ten parts of it!) And duly fitted on the Tuesday. The moral to this little saga is first and foremost, be careful on petrol station forecourts, and secondly, it can sometimes be better value for money to buy the complete article rather than just the parts required. To repair my bumper I only needed the centre rubber moulding and the bumper iron. These parts alone were well over four hundred pounds. The complete new bumper was five hundred and eighty five pounds all in, so my lovely Sovereign has benefited from brand new pristine chrome bumper cappings as well! P.S. Fitting is quite straight forward- it’s just like a giant meccano kit but set aside four hours and copious amounts of tea or coffee! TTFN Steve, the XJ40 fan.

I’m a owner of a "85" JAG XJS HE. It is a gray market auto. I would like to know what the spec’s are for this car, I’m also looking for a repair manual for it. I have a Haynes book on this year model, but it’s not got anything on U.K. models. From what I can tell I would be better off with a U.K. repair manual or at least some sound advice about repairs. My book covers a lot that is close enough to get the job done, but is lacking on engine spec’s and accurate repair of the engine. It is a V-12 with lots of passing power, I would like to keep it that way. ANY & ALL HELP WOULD BE GREAT

Hi, Everyone Just thought I’d tell you all about the terrible missfourtune I had back in July.It happened a week after Harewood. I left my 5 year old nephew in my 1975 Daimler Double 6 while I popped to the minibank. Put the car in park and applied the handbrake. He was in the front seat belted in, the next thing I know my pride and joy is rolling down the hill straight into a concrete post. Thank god Joshua was ok, but the Daimler needs 3000.00 pounds spending on it to put right. Fortunately I’m fully comp with Footman James, and the work is now underway. I’ll let you know what it turns out like when I get it back. The moral of this story is don’t leave anybody in your car not even your mother. Regards John.

I have just purchased a fairly elderly 2.9 XJ6 and suddenly bridged the gap to 1976 when my last Jaguar (a 1965 4.2 E-Type fixed head) caused a multiple collision on the North Circular reported to my pride on Radio One. This was my fourth, the first, a 1959 3.4 S/E Mark 1 was purchased for £55.00 and sold for £60.00 sans MOT, the second a 1961 3.4 Mark 2 cost a massive £200.00 and was purchased in preference to an early XK120 DHC going at £85.00 but rejected on the grounds of a lack of brakes, silencers or floorboards. Moving on I bought a 1964 3.8 S-Type for £375.00 which was a really lovely car before going on to buy my E-Type for £600.00. The combined value of this lot now is probably more than my house. So what will a 1989 XJ6 - nice condition - one owner - bald tyres otherwise OK bought in auction for £1070 be worth in 2025???

Hi! I own a 1993 3, 2 XJ6 with 90000kms on the clock. I have a problem; The gearlever is sometimes very difficult to switch from drive to neutral/reverse/park or from drive to 2/3. From park/reverse/neutral to drive is no problem. This can happen both when driving and when stationary. The car has a non-sports gearbox. When the car is not running and the starter key is out it is also possible to change from park to reverse/neutral/drive etc. Should this really be possible? Any suggestions?

Hello, I am a new owner of a 1993 Jaguar XJ6. I have loved them and longed for one as long as I can remember. Needless to say, I was thrilled when my husband let me in on his surprise for me. The Lord is indeed bountiful with His blessings. Does anyone know where I should get parts ie. tail lights, a hinge for driver’s door, front seat floor mats. The "coating" on the walnut panel on the driver’s door and the glove box is cracked. What should I do? Replace the whole panel, all of the panels (so they will match), or re "coat" them? Recently bought a 1974 SII Daimler Double-Six Vanden Plas in A+ condition. Better than a Rolls I reckon and faster! Mine is the LWB carb. version in gold with black v.roof and a 3.07 diff. which gives a top speed of 147mph but I can’t verify that.. yet. I have been to a few JEC meetings but only seen two others of this model and they were later fuel injected models. Anyone know of others in the UK? Mine has Tuscan coloured interior and I need a drivers door trim (door pocket in particular). Any messages or info. more than welcome. I love Jags. and although mine’s a Daimler it’s difficult not to call it a Jag. I am the proud new owner of a XJ6 1987. I absolutely love it ! She turns over a while before she will start, is this common ? I have tried fuel cleaning additive (STP). Also I have been given a Jaguar leaping mascot for the bonnet, I am tempted to cut off the studs of the mascot & use some sort of adhesive instead of drilling holes in the bonnet, which I thought might encourage some rust. Anyone any ideas ? Oh, one more thing, I need a new (second hand) centre console lid in fawn leather, again anyone any ideas ? Any info will be appreciated. Regards Alan Richards

Regarding my previous message about the lack of pictures of Jaguar XJ40’s on this website.....well all I can say is thank-you to Peter Ford (webman) for correcting this situation. Please view the "timeline" page and click on the picture section. You can now view my lovely XJ40 Sovereign outside Paramount Jaguar in Derby.(oh boy am I proud!) I still get the impression that not so many people hold a high regard for the XJ40, due to rust and questionable reliability. I have read the readers letters in this months "Jaguar Enthusiast" and found very differing views on this subject. (I have also read letters complaining about the reliability problems of the latest x300 model - you pays your money and takes your choice!) Although people are allowed an opinion, all I can say is that I have had no problems at all with my XJ40 (touch wood). All it has provided me with is ultimate driving satisfaction and pleasure. Nothing soothes and cossets you more from my experience. For anyone contemplating buying an XJ40, my advice would be to find a late model one (post 1990) and to find one in the best possible condition you can. Also, if possible, buy from a dealer or used car lot like I did in order to take advantage of a warranty. I paid a little extra for an extended warranty that covers just about everything and is also renewable (just for peace of mind you understand!). I don’t think there is a better time to purchase either, because XJ40’s have never been so cheap. Please view the aforementioned pictures noting that the vehicle you see has a full Jaguar service history, it has covered just eighty five thousand miles, and is just about rot free. Everything still operates as it should and the interior is fault free. I purchased this XJ40 in may of this year for the sum of five thousand pounds. Show me a better car for the money and I’ll eat the door mirrors! Finally, I was awarded second place in the bronze concours judging last month at the Jaguar Drivers Club’s XJ register International Day held at Duxford war museum in Cambridge. What more could I ask for my hard earnt five grand. I personally think that the XJ40 is the next "classic" Jaguar. Happy motoring and kind regards. p.s please feel free to e mail me with any comments you may have.
