Searching for a Mark IX. A superb vehicle which, in it's day was one of the few motor cars that could survive the Aussie Outback. The Ford Star competed but was no where near the class of the flying Jag which simply ran across the dirt tracks.

Hello again and seasons greetings to all! Boy oh boy, I must be mad! Tried selling some of my fleet but I have ended up buying in stead! A Jaguar series II 3.4 auto saloon this time. Not everyone's cup of tea but I love it! Why are the series II models so unloved? I know build quality was poor during the 1970's and Jaguars of this era were basically upmarket British Leyland products but I think any car that has lasted 24 years has stood the test of time! The car I have purchased is in condition 2+ with an excellent interior, a low original mileage of 69,000 and only three previous owners. All this for £500! I think series II's, especially non-coupe models are the ultimate Jaguar bargain at present! Rough but running XJ40's can be had for £1000. Why not save money and buy a presentable series II instead. I still love my XJ40 Sovereign but I think the series II has more character and is just as smooth and comfortable to drive. Any other series II owners out there? I would love to hear your comments, good or bad about your experiences with your car. Regards, Steve Jordan.

I have just bought a XJ12-86 and drove it from London to my friends garage in Hay on Wye-Hereford area. The best car I have ever driven although the steering is too light or not accurate enough. Can anyone recommend a garage in the area for replacing the exhaust system and bushings for the anti-roll bar? I am thinking of having an exhaust system with straight pipes from front silencer boxes. Will I faintly hear/feel the sound-note from the V12 or will it be rather noisy? What can I do to make the suspension slightly firmer? This is my 4th Jag. My first in the 60s was a Mark V and then a M-VII costing ca $100 each. I will now go back to my happy childhood time in my XJ12 but nothing compares with the feeling of the M-VII with its interior and driving seat beside the big whining manual gearbox.

Hi, I have a 1988 XJ40. I've owned the car for 3 years, it is in pristine condition (hasn't seen rain in 2 years). It's "fully loaded" - air con, leather etc & only 80K miles!. However, I've a problem, its only a 2.9 & is therefore slow & guzzles the old juice, plus will only run on LRP or super unleaded. Can anybody give me any suggestions re either getting improved performance or replacing the engine with a 3.6 or 4.0 unit - viability/costs/anybody who could do the job. Please help if you can or my beauty may well have to go!

Can any one help? One of my XJ6 alloys has blisters appearing where water has penetrated the lacquer layer, my alloys are the "KIWI" model finished turned and then clear lacquered not painted as is the trend now. As I do not wish to have all of my rims painted as I only have a problem with the one does any one know who could offer a renovation service to strip re-polish and lacquer my blistered rim to restore it as new?.

Since 1978 I have owned a V8 2.5 Daimler, a 1987 Jaguar Sovereign, a 1988 XJS V12 Coupe, a 1997 Daimler Six and today I am a proud owner of a Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible. The nice thing about Jags is that one does not own it for being seen driving one, but because it simply is a pleasure to drive it and care for it. At least this is what being a Jaguar Enthusiast should be all about. I hope everyone feels the same!!!

I have 3 Jaguars. My best car is a 1993 convertible 4 litre. It let me down this year on holiday in Spain with a blown head gasket, but I must say that the Jaguar dealer in Barcelona was superb and had the car repaired before I was due to return back to the UK. I felt let down as I was looking forward to using it in the Costa Blanca, and had a hired Astra Diesel (not quite the same) I also have a XJS pre-HE 5.3 litre manual which is in good condition but has hardly been used for the last 10 years and only has 80K on the clock. My other car is a Daimler Sovereign one of the first registered in 1986. This also has not been used for the last year, you cant tax and insure all of them. I use a Rover 75 as my work horse I feel that is more like the old series 2 than the S - type. (well thats what I 'kid' myself) I suppose I will have to sell something as I have to rent 2 garages to keep the off road cars in. It nice to be able to share your thoughts on the net. What a superb idea!

I have been the proud owner of a racing green convertible supercharged 4 litre XKR since the 4th June 1999. Except for some problems that the warranty and some modifications have sorted out, this car has given me so much pleasure it is unbelievable. Fast and powerful, Looks superb, steers with a thought, LOADS of baggage room in the boot (trunk to our USA friends). Even got my own number plates What more could I ask for. Except for the latest version of course and a bit more money to pay for tyres etc! love it. Julie

Bought my '96 4.0l black LHD Sovereign in England this summer after an involuntary stay in hospital (Best regards Royal Free!!) and have so far travelled up to Norway, back down through Sweden, Denmark, Germany France and Spain - next leg will probably be Portugal,France and then we will see! This car has lived up to its reputation of quality build and apart from changing a bearing on the diff. and a couple of small details before leaving England has clocked up a considerable mileage with no other problems than a battery change. This car is German spec. and has done considerable mileage on the German autobahns - I think this gives credit to the German Jag agents (Arden) who have serviced this car for nearly all it's life. If anyone sees me (travelling alone) give XJI 5518 a wave. (or drop me an e-mail - I'm fully mobile!!

Greetings all: What a surprise, to find your listing of so many Jaguar enthusiasts. I surfed the net-often enough but had never stumbled onto it ????? I own a 1977 XJ6L, for nearly, 2 years now, and have had many enjoyable and not so-enjoyable hours working on this beast. There is something that keeps me coming back to it to try to restore it to its original condition, I really don't know why, ??? Its not an easy automobile to work on and I have worked on a few. Being of German origin I am surprised that I got mentally stuck on a British car, still its out there in my garage a gleaming black sensuous beauty with its walnut dash and the many different smells that come from it, almost like a heady perfume, --no cheap plastic smells to be found. The car definitely has a character and is temperamental to boot. All that aside I have learned to work on this cat over the last two years and would not recommend restoring one if you have no practical mechanical experience and plenty of tools.( and plenty of money) I am living in Nebraska, but I don't tell people that unless they have the need to know only. There are not very many XJ6,s to be found here for some reason. I am usually looking for parts and there are no wrecked ones anywhere to be found that are as old as 1977. maybe someone else might know where I can find an XJ6L Series 2 here within reasonable driving distance of Omaha ???? I would be interested to hear from other enthusiast, that have gotten stuck on the Jag virus , maybe there is a remedy, but I doubt it. Anyway greetings to all and don't let your Cat drive you crazy. " Cheerio and all that , you know " Auf wiedersehen.
