I purchased a 1989 XJ6 that had the suspension system changed to have rear shocks that are w/o the hydraulics. I recently had a 4-wheel alignment and the mechanic plugged back in the connector in the rear to activate the system. A short time later I had the sensor (with the black wire sheathing) leak mineral oil and my power brake assist went out. I sealed up the leaking sensor, cut the wires and tied them together. I now have power assist brakes but I was wondering if the sensor maintained a specific pressure in the system and where could I find a sensor for a reasonable price?

Have a 1990 XJ6 with several annoying problems which I need help resolving.

1.) The right rear door will open from the inside but not the outside - need help with this.

2.) The a/c compressor clutch needs replacing as the old is oil soaked from cyl head gasket leak. Can the clutch be replaced as a separate item? Without removing from the brackets? or do I need to replace the entire compressor and recharge system?

3.) The tps is failing so I will need to replace it. Is there an adjustment when it is replaced?

thanks for your help in advance.

Surfed on to your site. In the USA, I cut keys for British cars by code, using american key blanks. I also have orginal Wilmot Breeden key, with the word "UNION" stamped on same. Have a web page at britishcarkeys.com   For Jaguar owners in USA, Karen Miller has referred people to me for replacement keys. Appreciate any referrals. Best regards

Hi, I am restoring a 1971 Daimler Sovereign Series 1 4.2. Its original colour is metallic green and I have never seen another Series 1 in this colour scheme. Does anyone out there own a metallic green Series 1 or know what this colour is called? or even better the paint code? Is this a special order colour? Do you know anywhere I could find out (there is no reference to metallic series 1 colours in any of the XJ books)? Any information very much appreciated as my car needs a respray! Thanks. alecmccutcheon-at-aol.com 01895 674795.

Jags are great! I have just got my hands on a lovely 1988 XJ6 3.6l auto. There are no badges to the left and right hand sides of the rear numberplate. Should they be the rectangular type or the written 3D type? Where could I get them? Great site, keep up the good work.

I have a pristine XJS Convertible 1993 4.0 litre big bumper model. The car has only done 43800kms. It has just developed a strange phenomenon with its aircon/heater control switch ( the on/off switch setting low, medium, high, demist etc, not the temp control ). Whenever the switch is "off" (turned straight down ) the heating system goes into a regime of regular "puffs" from the vents - at about 10-12 second intervals . Any suggestions of cause would be gratefully received. My mechanics are mystified at this stage. The aircon system has been checked and found to be in perfect order - pressure perfect, operation in "on" position ( hot or cold or in between )provides perfect operation. The problem is only there in the " off" position.

I am the owner of a '88 XJ40 3.6 that I am in the process of changing for a '89 Daimler 3.6 (Love that extravagant luxury). The car has great power, but I would like to explore the possibility of adding just a little extra. I've heard that it is possible to get a chip that gives around 10% extra hp and torque, while reducing fuel consumption, for a reasonable price. Does anyone have any information about this? Is it bad for the engine?

1974 DAIMLER DOUBLE-SIX VANDEN PLAS SeriesII. Anyone else got one? I've only seen 4 or 5 in the "flesh". I bought mine a couple of years ago and have done loads of work on it. It's now in "A+" condition and at the stage where I can rely on it mechanically. If something were to go wrong, I feel quite comfortable about diagnosing and fixing it. Of the greatest help to me was the jag-lovers website - lots of helpful, friendly people on the mailing lists. Anyway, see my car for yourself at Paul's Daimler Diary: URL http://homepage.ntlworld.com/p.c.clarkson

Hi there. Just bought a lovely 1988 Daimler 3.6. Would appreciate some opinions as to how I can cure very un-Daimlerish noise levels at certain revs as it goes through the auto gears. It appears to be a resonance in the newish stainless exhaust system fitted prior to my purchase in another part of the country. I have been advised to wait until the silencers carbon up. Is there another quicker way? How about wrapping the boxes with exhaust wrap as supplied by Demon Tweaks? Has anyone tried this on a Jag or another car? I would also appreciate any recommendations for mobile mechanics and/or small reasonably priced garages who are knowledgeable about these vehicles and who are based in the Leicestershire or North Warwickshire area. Thanks!

Has anyone out there in Jagland UK also got an X300 4.0L XJR with a manual box? When I bought it I understood it to be one of only 4 in the country. Given the weight of the clutch there may well be only another 3 people as crazy as me but it may also be apocryphal. How fast is that car though! And I can highly recommend it as a spectacular "drivers" car, second only to the 3.8 mark 2 (in manual of course!).

In 2000 on June 13, I bought a 1976 signal red coupe in good condition, and this year, on June 13, I bought a blue coupe with a hardtop in very good condition. I intend to keep both of them for a long time. The market is finally starting to recognize the value of these cars. Cars of Particular Interest (CPI) Market Value that banks use shows a 1+ value rating right now, which means they are going up. One recently sold at auction in Las Vegas for $21,200!

Enjoyed my first browse of your site. Will certainly come again, searching for MkVII - MkIX models. I have a passion for these magnificent cars and have formed the NZ MKVII, VIIM, VIII, IX Register to gather as much of their history in NZ as I can. I drive a 1954 MkVII, have a 1955 MkVIIM in hibernation awaiting refurbishment, and a 1958 MkVIII which is well through a refurbishment at the moment. If you own a NZ based MkVII - IX and its not on the register, drop me an e-mail, I would love to hear from you.

We brought our 68 340 saloon, (52,000 miles, grey paint/blueinterior) out of a 17 year retirement and showed it this weekend here in Toronto and earned 96.21pts. With a little more work it should be up around 98. pts+. For an original car that's exceptional. We want to sell it as we are helping to build Baha'i School in West Bengal, India. Anyone interested in adopting a treasure and helping hundreds of children at the same time, please contact me.
