Currently restoring series 3 XJ6. Been off road for 4 years. Need 2 good petrol tanks and front crossmember. My proffession is LPG conversions, so once it is back on the road I will then be converting it to LPG. Jags love LPG, so anybody wanting info on conversions just drop me a line.

Wanted: an e-type to hire on 26-05-02
My dad is celebrating his 70th birthday this week and we have organised a surprise party on a steam train. The day would be perfect if I could drive him to the station in an old e-type, as he used to own one, when he had a lot more hair!

My new squeeze is a Daimler Double-Six Series I VDP.
It's number 250 of the run of 342/351 (I have two books which state conflicting Production Run info for the S1 D6 VDPs - can anybody confirm ?), having been built in February 1973.
In Aegean Blue with Chamois Leather, it's in a right old mess, and I was just in time to save it being turned into Baked Bean Cans.
Full Restoration is now underway and is expected to take at least 12 months. Hoping to be on the road for Summer 2003 - and would be interested in hearing from owners of the other surviving Series I VDPs...........
I'm considering starting a register of S1 VDP Owners via a website to keep in regular contact - anybody interested out there ?, or already running one ?

I own a 82 V12 XJS which has been unused for some time. Upon restarting I have noticed the oil pressure gauge reading very high, almost off the gauge with the ignition on but not running and when running it rises off the gauge. Also when started from cold the gearbox is noisy for the first 20 seconds or so. Could anyone throw any light on these problems please.

When I was in London in 1986, I saw a 4-door convertible at a Jaguar Dealer. Can anyone tell me about the 4-door series? It may have been a Daimler that looked like a Jag. Your response would be quite appreciated. I currently have a 2001 Jag S in my favorite 1957 colour BRG.

I've recently bought a Daimler Sov 1990 4.0. Drives beautifully but suddenly auto transmission warning light comes on and then it stays in a low gear and 3,2 and sports mode don't work. If I put in reverse it goes to limp home mode. If I switch off I can get the warning light to go off for a while and it drives normally. Has anyone had this problem? Is it mechnaical or electrical? The "local" main dealer charged me £69 just to get out their garage so reluctant to return

I'm glad I found this magazine. I have a 2002 X-type and love it. It is my first Jag and it is too soon to see if whether or not it will be my last. Jaguar has over the years made some of the best looking motorcars ever to hit the road. Anyone who has an X-type and would like to chat about ownership, give me a line.

Hi, everyone. I own a 96 jag van dan plas - black, beautiful car. I'm having problem with I think transmission. Dealer does not seem to find the problem.
I feel lot of hesitation and a heavy jerk while the auto-transmission shifts its gears. Almost can hear a knocking sound, more like rubber hiting rubber hard. Anyone can help with this kind of problem i'm really concerened - otherwise the car is in perfect shape with only 65,000 miles. Driving is great. Only problem is with shifting gears. Thankyou

I am not a 'Jag enthusiast', however I have something you might like to pass on to those that are:
On my walks around the area where I live I have spotted a recently abandoned 1985 Sovereign 4.2 , Willow green, pepperpot alloys, clean cream leather interior.
Its rotten under the front foot well and rear sills but the engine looks great.
It will soon be trashed and burned - a fate bestowed on nearly all the abandoned cars in the area where I live.
If I had the resources I would garage the car and restore it, however I am unemployed and garageless.
I presume there may be somebody who could salvage this beautiful piece of engineering and indeed, British heritage?
This is where it is: Denne Terrace, Hackney, London E2. (by the canal).

I bought a SII XJ6 in 1992 and rebuilt it completely and still have it. Lately I have also purchased a SIII XJ6,
a SIII XJ6 Sovereign (got it very cheaply- half way through an engine rebuild) and a SIII XJ6 Van den Plas in mint condition. I love them all, but I have to sell two of them. The dilemma is, which two? Probably the Sovereign when it's finished and the SII.

I am in love with the XJ6/12, the most useable is the later Series 3. I own a 3.4 Auto XJ6 1985, 21k genuine, 1 owner in Sebring red. Also a Jag Sovereign 1985 4.2 Auto 125k, Cobalt blue, just MOT'd it, emission test result remarkable, almost none! It needs a windscreen, and wipers sorting, plus suspension attention, and a bit to the brakes. Also 1977 Daimler 4.2 Coupe Auto, 58k, ~I believe genuine, car has never been restored. Needs small work to make useable but I intend to restore it. Lastly Im stripping a Daimler Double Six 1985, and rebuilding the engine. With some careful mods, the V12 sounds/behaves Ferrari/Formula 1-ish. Everyone wants the 4.2 but I realised the 3.4 is much nicer to drive, it revs higher, feels like you are really driving it. I was doing 90 mph up a steep hill over the M62 at night, I just couldnt believe how beautiful the engine is. It actually purrs like a dream. If you ever happen to have your bumpers off an XJ6/12, look at the body-shape !
closely, it is near perfection in every way....not bad for conservative English designers. Dont say it was designed in Italy!, the final approval came from England. Unbeatable, and these cars are cheap/plentiful....for now.

Am now trying a shot blast and resin based paint finish to bring it back to life will keep you informed if this is succesful.

Favourite jaguar series 1 XJ (last of the true classic) but love all classic jags. Have been a member 10 years and although I deeply appreciate all the masses of hard work of the commitee I do feel the magazine is now let down by too much modern content i.e. current range/F1 (I am a great F1 fan but not in JE mag.) I own a Mk1 2.4 litre and a XJ6 2.8 litre MOD. While the XJ6 is restored and up and running, the Mk1 is nearing completion. It is a 1957 Special Equipment model imported new into this country, and is already looking a peach in opalescent midnight blue. I will keep you updated on progress and possibly submit some photos. My dream is to purchase and restore a S1 E-type and I am already hunting one down hoping I will find one on an old tea estate or oil mill. My sleuths are already on the job.

I have been a member since 1999 when I finally purchased my first Jag, a 1992 Soveriegn 3.2L. She was a lovely car but started showing her age and was traded in, last year, for a A+ condition 1993 XJS V12 6.0L coupe.
What a car! She guzzles fuel at an average of 17mpg, is totally impactical and has cost a small fortune in fixing a few niggles (together with a few extra penalty points on my driving licence), but I love her to bits. Friends ask why I don't swap her for a more 'sensible' new car. They obviously haven't sat behind the wheel of a big cat. Well, they certainly won't be sitting behind mine!

It took me half-a-lifetime to acquire my first jag and now I can't afford to do her justice with a tidy-up or even run her. She's an 88 (e reg) sovereign auto in green with beige trim. MOT expired end of last year and for six months have kept her ticking over, with the odd clandestine trip (no road fund). She's always fired up first time and has good compression but does need odd couple of tyres etc. All i want is £200 and a good home for this graceful old lady. Or maybe we should have one last summer together?

Ive had Jaguars for the past 10 years. My car for the last 4 years is a XJ6 4.0S (XJ40) in its ultimate colour combination Moroco Red with Magnolia Int.
I consider this model to be the ultimate XJ40 styling. Its cost me a packet putting right what the Jaguar main dealer messed up but now she's spot on.
Its a lot of hard work, they depreciate but theres somthing about an Old Cat that appeals. Happy Motoring

Family getting larger. Can't fit into black XJR anymore. BOO HOO! If you fancy a MANUAL supercharged, 4 litre, stealth bomber that YOU can drive rather than having the car do the thinking, e-mail me. The car is in very good condition and you will love it for £11,000 ono. Go on, you know it makes sense. I shall have to buy an mpv but the trick is to get an XJS as well, just to appease the need for a cat.

I am looking to buy a series 3 XJ6 or XJ12. I have searched several reference guides but am having some difficulty in confirming spec levels as some guides are UK others USA. Does any body know for sure about UK spec levels. In particular the sovereign and Vanden Plas. Did Jaguar make an XJ12 Vanden Plas for the UK, if so what years did production start and end? Likewise for the XJ12 sovereign? Also for the XJ6 Vanden Plas what year did production start and end? I am also confused as some adverts refer to long and short wheel base, however I cannot find any refernce to these in catalogues. Lastly the Daimler versions, what's the difference apart from the name plate and £1000+. Thanks for your help

P881LDP where are you?! I'm looking for the current owners of a Jaguar XK8. My family were the first owners of the car... it's an Antigua Blue car, registration when we sold it was P 881 LDP, if you know of the whereabouts of this car I'd be really interested to see where she's got to and if she's ok! After owning this fabulous car my father decided to return to normality and chose a sensible VW Passat as his next car. I'm just curious to find out where the nicest car my family has ever owned has got to! If you have any info on P881LDP I'd love to know. She was finished in Antigua Blue and had the optional 18" alloy wheels.

I enjoyed my first visit to your site. My first Jag was a 2.4 saloon which I bought in 1959. I then owned a series of XJS coupes from 1987 to date, the current vehicle being a 4.0litre XJS-C which I bought new in 1994 and which has done 70k miles. Each car was a delight to drive and has given me infinite pleasure, I wouldn't be without one, but to get some fun I also have a SS100 Heritage Relica in 1/2 race tune which brings back all the memories of watching Jaguars at their best from 1951 onwards. Long may they continue their success and development to bringing a range of products which satify the aspirations of every pocket and age group.

Hallo Jaguar-Enthusiasts, Greetings from Germany. I just found your pages in the internet - they're rather great. I've fullfilled a dream, existing since the year 1963, when I first saw a Jag E-Type here in Germany, then in Southampton and at last in New York on the Broadway. Now after having retired, I have the time to drive and take care of such a car. Last year I've got a series III FHC of 1971. Before there were tax-papers of Florida and Ocklahoma till
November 1991 on the front window. Maybe the former owner remembers and could get into contact with me. There is nothing greater than a Jaguar 12 - Cylinder !!

I've been a member of the JEC for 7 months now and have to say that it's the best thing I ever did. After lusting after a Jaguar for as long as I can remember, I should finally be buying one this year. My 1st choice would have to be an XJS 3.6. Thanks to the club magazine I now know that owning one of these masterpieces is not as daunting a prospect as most people would have you believe!, how many people say to us that owning a jaguar will cost you a fortune? If you shop around you can own one of these cars for a lot less than a Ford or Similar. If anyone has any pointers or tips for XJS's I would appreciate the information also if anyone has any nice A4 pictures that they wouldn't mind e-mailing. Thanks.

I'm a JEC member living in London and planning to holiday in the USA this Summer. I'm planning a driving holiday with my partner and two kids, aged 5 and 10 years . We plan to drive from LA out towards Yosemite and as far as Vegas before returning to LA or San Francisco to fly home. We intend to travel for 2 weeks around the end of August. I drive a Daimler Double-Six Vanden Plas Series 3 at home and would ideally like to hire a Jag for the holiday (air con a must), or alternatively some classic American iron would be top fun, I'm thinking big finned Caddy? Either option would be preferable to the usual bland tin cans that the Fly Drive companies offer! Can anyone States side offer any help? Also, I'm open on advice on places to go, things to see that might keep the whole family amused whilst I enjoy my holiday just ferrying us all about in style. Many thanks.

I'm only 19 and it may sound stupid but I'm in love with the jaguar e-type 4.2l roadster and am thinking of restoring one myself. Any hints and tips on what to look for and where to start looking to buy one and if you think I made the right decision to pick this car to restore. What should I be looking out for when I go to buy one. I will have a mechanic with me but he never worked on a jag before so he wont be much use. All help would be greatly appreciated.

JEC is really good. Shame best part is in the UK! Anyone has ever done a round instrument conversion on his/her XJ-S? What about it? Trouble?

When I was 11 in 1961 I wrote to Jaguar and asked if they would send me brochures and price list of E-Type and Mk2. This they kindly did. They are still as new in the original envelope, an e-type jag was approx £2000 !!!
Anyone want to make me an offer I can't refuse!! I currently own a Jaguar XJ6 Gold, 3.2 1994. Anybody got any views on converting to run on LPG??

Restoring my 1978 Series 1 XJS.Need to get replacement outer sills, can anyone help? Time the beast gets restored it will be one the oldest on the road I reckon. Just a thought. Wish the spares for this model were just as plentifull as the e type, maybe the pleasure would not be so frustrating.

While in High School in the late 50's and early 60's, I owned a Mark Vll Salon. In 1996, I purchased a 1989 XJS 12, what a fantastic car. Few problems with fuel line and ignition wires being too close together, but I was able to extinguish the fire before causing too much damage. The engine has 91,000 miles and is just beginning to be broken in. Of course, it is parked in the garage and only used for Sunday driving these days.

I love old cars and more specifically old jags, perhaps my dream is becoming a reality because I have found a E Type 3.8 l 1962 coupe sleeping in a garage for ten years, the car is complete, the engine is running but there is a lot of work on the body, on breaks, tyres .....
I would like to buy it but, what are the important points I have to verify before buying it ? Which price will be the right one ? Maybe sombody have an idea of the price I can propose ? (8000 Euros ?)
