The Charity

Last year's Chairman was Keith Vincent and he chose the Cystic Fibrosis Trust as the Club's designated charity.

Cystic Fibrosis is one of the most common life-threatening, inherited disease and affects around 7,500 babies, children and young adults, just in the UK.

CF is a generic disease that affects a number of organs in the body by clogging them with thick, sticky mucus. Around 2.3 million people in the UK carry the faulty gene. If both parents carry the gene, there is a 1 in 4 chance that their child will have CF.

Each week three young lives are lost to Cystic Fibrosis and for others, there is a life expectancy of only 31 years.

At present there is no cure for CF but the faulty gene has been identified and doctors are working to find ways of repairing or replacing it.

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust was formed in 1964 and needs to raise £8 million every year to fund this vital work. Research is aimed at understanding, treating and curing the disease. The Trust is also there to ensure that those with CF receive the best possible care and support.
