The Ultimate XJS? It's perhaps not surprising for a model that was in production for 21 years, that a myriad of derivative, alternative and special editions of the XJS were produced throughout the model life. Perhaps the most extreme of these, certainly from a performance perspective, were the "Lister" & "Lister Le Mans" models. Initially marketed by BLE Automotive, the standard XJS was converted with various body, interior and engine enhancements. In 1986, the Lister Brand was taken over by WP Automotive and the detailed records of Lister XJSs stem from this point. Engines range from tuned 5.3 litre variants through to a mighty 7.3 litre twin-supercharged monster. With outputs up to 700BHP, they were arguably the fastest road cars in the world at the time, potentially capable of 200mph! Beauty is always a very personal viewpoint but in my eyes the most desirable XJS is the extremely rare facelift Lister Le Mans Convertible. Fully specified, this car cost in excess of £200,000 in 1991! Despite the extremely low numbers of Listers made, they still come up for sale occasionally. There is an excellent example of a 7 litre Le Mans Coupe currently for sale. See the pics below. With an asking price of £39,995, only 13k miles on the clock and costing in excess of £120,000 when new, it could represent the pinnacle of XJS ownership for you! Interested? |
